How can I prevent bodyweight exercises from being included in my workout program?
Overview
Fitbod gives you the power to personalize your workouts by telling the app which exercises you love, dislike, or want to avoid entirely. This guide will walk you through how to manage your exercise preferences using the Recommend More, Less, or Exclude feature.
What is Recommend More, Less, or Exclude?
This feature allows you to:
- Recommend More Often: Tell Fitbod to include an exercise more frequently in your workouts.
- Recommend Less Often: Reduce how often a specific exercise appears.
- Don’t Recommend Again (Exclude): Completely remove an exercise from your workout recommendations.
These preferences help tailor your workouts to your goals, equipment, and personal preferences.
How To Use Recommend More, Less, or Exclude
From a Workout
- Open the Fitbod app.
- Navigate to the Workout Tab.
- Tap the ellipsis (“...”) next to any exercise.
- Choose one of the following:
- Recommend More Often
- Recommend Less Often
- Don't Recommend Again
⚠️ Important Note: If you select “Don’t Recommend Again,” the exercise will be removed from your current workout (if it hasn’t been started yet) and excluded from future recommendations.
From Manage Exercises
- Open the Fitbod app.
- Navigate to the Log Tab.
- Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner.
- Scroll down to Workout Settings and select Manage Exercises.
- Use the filter icon (top right) to view:
- Tap the three dots (•••) next to any exercise to update your preference.

- These preferences apply across all gym profiles.

Tips for Best Results
- Use Recommend More to reinforce exercises you enjoy or want to improve.
- Use Recommend Less for exercises you tolerate but don’t love.
- Use Exclude for exercises that cause discomfort, don’t match your goals, or require unavailable equipment.
- Combine this feature with your Available Equipment and Fitness Goal settings for the most personalized experience.
Troubleshooting
If you're not seeing expected changes, try logging out of your account and back in or deleting/reinstalling the app.

Why am I still seeing an exercise I marked as "Recommend Less," or not seeing one I marked as "Recommend More"?
The Recommend More/Less feature adjusts how frequently an exercise appears in your workouts but it doesn’t guarantee removal or inclusion every time.
Here’s how it works:
- Recommend More: Increases the likelihood of seeing the exercise by 40–60%.
- Recommend Less: Decreases the likelihood by 20–40%.
However, your Gym Profile settings, including your fitness goal, experience level, available equipment, muscle recovery, and workout duration, all influence which exercises are selected. If an exercise is highly rated for your profile, it may still appear even if you selected "Recommend Less." Similarly, if an exercise is low-ranked or typically appears later in a workout, it may not show up often even if you selected "Recommend More."
Think of it as a preference nudge, not a strict rule. For more control, you can use the "Don’t Recommend Again" option to fully exclude an exercise.
How can I prevent bodyweight exercises from being included in my workout program?
At this time, Fitbod does not offer a global setting to completely disable all bodyweight exercises. However, you can reduce or remove them from your workouts using the following options:

Manually Exclude Specific Exercises - You can tell Fitbod not to recommend individual bodyweight exercises:
- Go to the Log tab.
- Tap the Settings icon (top right).
- Select Workout Settings > Manage Exercises.
- Use the search bar to find bodyweight exercises (e.g., push-ups, air squats).
- Tap the ••• next to each one and select Don’t Recommend Again.
- Use “Recommend Less Often” - If you don’t want to fully exclude an exercise, you can choose Recommend Less Often to reduce how frequently it appears.
⚠️ Important Note: Bodyweight exercises are often included to support your fitness goal, recovery needs, or equipment availability. Excluding too many exercises may limit variety in your workouts.
